New patrol craft for the port of Rotterdam
Description:
The Rotterdam Port Authority has ordered the build of 7 new patrol vessels. These are fulltime in operation (7 x 24 hours) for general patrol in the harbour. Furthermore the vessels are used for damage control when incidents occur. The vessels are equipped with large fire extinguishing equipment, and all other possible equipment for incidents such as fighting spills, saving drowning men or removing objects, for example cars, from the water. One can say that the vessels are the ears, eyes and hands of the Port Authority.
vhp has been involved in the design of the vessels from an early stage in the process. Especially the workstations of the wheel men turned out to be critical because of the large number of (computer) equipment that must be controlled. An important requirement concerns the control at calamities, where the quartermasters are dressed in gas suits with compressed air.
The workstations on the bridge have changed radically compared the old ships, especially because of the central placement of several computer equipment. For this reason a true size mock-up was build of the whole bridge, so that all details could be tested intensively.
